Daniel Fast Guidelines

In Daniel 10:2-3, Daniel deprived himself of choice food, meat, and wine as he sought the Lord in prayer. Daniel’s passion for the Lord caused him to hunger and thirst more for spiritual food than for physical food. Daniel Fast is a lot more than restricting food. It’s about entering a period of time with intense Focus on God and His will. This time is to diligently seek God, learn about Him His ways and how to live a powerful and fruitful life according to His Word.

The Daniel Fast Food List

During the Daniel Fast, you should eat only foods grown from seeds, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. You should drink only 100% juice and water, and avoid all animal products, sweeteners, and processed foods. Here we breakdown the foods that you should eat, and ones that you should avoid.

Foods to Eat

  • All fruit– fresh, frozen, dried, juiced, or canned.
  • All vegetables– fresh, frozen, dried, juiced, or canned.
  • All whole grains– amaranth, barley, brown rice, oats, quinoa, millet, and whole wheat.
  • All nuts & seeds– almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecans, pine nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds; unsweetened almond milk. Nut butters are also included.
  • All legumes– canned or dried; black beans, black eyed peas, cannellini beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), great northern beans, kidney beans, lentils, pinto beans, and split peas.
  • All quality oils– avocado, coconut, grapeseed, olive, peanut, sesame, and walnut.
  • Beverages- distilled water, filtered water, and spring water.
  • Juice– 100%Juice only.
  • Herbal Tea only– with no added sweeteners
  • Other– unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, or soy milk; herbs, spices, salt, pepper, unsweetened coconut flakes, seasonings, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, soy products, and tofu.
  • Eggs

Foods to Avoid

  • All meat & animal products– beef, buffalo, fish, lamb, poultry, and pork.
  • All dairy products– butter, cheese, cream, and milk.
  • All sweeteners– agave nectar, artificial sweeteners, cane juice, honey, molasses, raw sugar, syrups, stevia, and sugar.
  • All leavened bread & yeast– baked goods and Ezekiel bread (if it contains yeast and honey).
  • All refined & processed food products– artificial flavorings, chemicals, food additives, preservatives, white flour, and white rice.
  • All deep-fried foods– corn chips, French fries, and potato chips.
  • All solid fats– lard, margarine, and shortening.
  • Beverages– alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, energy drinks.

Fast Scriptures

Here are the scriptures we are using during the Daniel Fast. We encourage you to read them daily and meditate on them. We believe that God will speak to you through His Word and that you will be encouraged and strengthened as you seek Him.

Week 1

Focus: The Word of God Revealed

Daniel 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

Week 2

Focus: Understanding of the Word that God gave

Daniel 10:11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

Week 3

Focus: Pray Against the Opposition

Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
